Asil Nadir was the CEO of Polly Peck, the business that collapsed in 1990 following an investigation by the Serious Fraud Office. Charges were brought against Nadir for false accounting. Nadir was made bankrupt in 1992 but he absconded to Cyprus. Subsequently his automatic discharge from bankruptcy was suspended indefinitely. Nadir returned to the UK in 2010 to face charges. His discharge from bankruptcy is due to be granted in July 2012. That makes Nadir’s bankruptcy suspension one of the longest in English legal history.
